Monitor pH (7.5–8.5), dissolved oxygen (>5 ppm) and ammonia daily. Conduct partial water exchange of 10–20% every 3–5 days to maintain optimal conditions for healthy shrimp growth.
Stock at 25–60 PL/m² for semi-intensive systems. Higher densities require stronger aeration and water exchange. Use only disease-free, SPF-certified seeds from trusted hatcheries for best survival rates.
Feed 3–4 times daily using feed trays to monitor consumption. Adjust quantities based on feed tray observations — overfeeding leads to poor water quality while underfeeding reduces growth rates.
Conduct weekly health checks — inspect gill colour, gut fullness and swimming behaviour. Quarantine new seeds before stocking, disinfect equipment between ponds and maintain biosecurity at entry points.
Harvest when shrimp reach 15–20g (60–90 days post-stocking) for best market prices. Use cast nets for sampling to estimate biomass. Harvest during cooler hours to minimise stress and maintain quality.
Run aerators 24 hours in high-density ponds. Position paddlewheel aerators to create circular water movement that concentrates sludge at the pond centre for easier removal and healthier shrimp.
